For five years, our San Francisco Bay Campus Metro Team has wrestled with incredibly challenging demographics. California has the largest student population in the United States, and most of these transient, economically challenged and very busy students go to community colleges. Their schedules and lack of time have been two major barriers to planting and sustaining movements. After repeated failures to launch new movements, the Metro Team asked something simple and profound. “What is the smallest group of people that can still have the dynamics of discipleship and growth?” They answered, “Three.”

The resulting Groups of Three strategy (called a G3) is about groups of at least three people, meeting about three things: Giving, Growing and Praying. A G3 meets once a week for about an hour to follow a simple format that fits on a one-fourth sheet of paper. The members ask, “Who has God put in your life to give away the gospel to?” and “What is God teaching you?” The weekly hour is the culmination of what is already happening spiritually in their lives. Then they pray together for the people they’ve shared about and for continued growth in the things that God is teaching them.
その結果G3と呼ばれる三つの戦略グループが生まれました。これは最低３人が集まって三つのことを行う集まりです。与えること、成長すること、そして祈りの三つです。G３グループは週に一回、一時間ほど集まり、一枚の紙の４分の１程度にまとめられた簡単なフォーマットに従って進めます。メンバーは「神は福音を分かち合うために、誰をあなたの生活の中に置いておられるか？」「神はあなたに何を教えておられるか？」という二つの質問に答えます。この週一回の一時間はすでに彼らの生活の中で霊的に行われている出来事は、週一度のこの一時間で最高潮に達するのです。そして福音を伝えたい人のために、また神が教えておられる事において引き続き成長するために、お互いに祈ります。
G3 groups tend to grow quickly and relationally. By the time they reach six people, with some coaching, the group “pops.” Hopefully they form three groups of two, and each group then trusts God to provide a third person. It’s just one hour a week, but the students feel part of something bigger than themselves.
G3グループは急速に、関係を持ちながら成長します。メンバーが６人になる頃までには、コーチを受けながらそのグループははじけます。 ２人ずつ３つのグループを形成し、それぞれがもう一人を与えて下さるよう神に期待するのです。毎週たったの一時間ですが、学生たちはグループの大きさを超えた大きなものの一部に属しているという気持ちになることができるのです。
At San Jose State, a G3 has strongly influenced the radio and film department. One student, Oswaldo, recently had the opportunity to share about Christ in front of his class. This one group quickly planted about eight more G3s in the department. Conservatively, there are G3s on at least 20 campuses in the Bay Area.
サンノゼ州立大学では、あるG3グループがラジオ・映画学部に強い影響を及ぼしています。オズワルドという学生は、最近クラスの前でキリストを伝える機会を得ました。この一つのグループは急速に８つのG3を学部内に発足させたのです。控えめに言っても、サンフランシスコエリアでは最低２０のキャンパスにG3が存在しています。
Clearly, the G3 strategy is multiplying. It is simple, intrinsically motivational and relational. When people begin to act on the question “Who has God put in my life to give away the gospel to?,” it is remarkable what can happen. Two of our staff members from the College of Charleston, in South Carolina, were doing spiritual interest surveys at Trident Tech Palmer Campus. A student named Hunter walked up and said, “Hey, y’all, I just became a Christian a few months ago and I’m really excited about Jesus. Who are you?”
G3戦略は明らかに倍加を遂げています。シンプルで、動機を与えやすく、関係中心です。「神は福音を分かち合うために、誰をあなたの生活の中に置いておられるか？」という質問に取り組み始める時、目を見張るような結果が起こりうるのです。南カルフォルニアにあるチャールストン大学から二人のスタッフがトライデント技術大パーマー校を訪れ、霊的意識調査を行っていた時のことです。ハンターという学生がやって来てこう話しかけました「こんちは、自分は最近クリスチャンになったばかりで、イエスのことを考えると嬉しくてたまらないんです。みなさんはどちらの方ですか？」
They explained a little bit about Campus Crusade for Christ and asked Hunter to fill out a survey. A few days later one of the staff members gave Hunter a call. As he stepped inside Hunter’s house, Hunter began telling him, “Well, I took some classmates down to the beach today to go surfing. And while we were there hanging out, I told them all about Jesus.” He went on to explain to the staff member the most amazing story of how God has changed his life from one of endless parties, alcohol and relationships to one of absolute obedience and love for the Jesus who saved him.
二人は簡単にキャンパス・クルセード・フォー・クライストについて説明し、アンケートに答えてくれるようお願いしました。数日後にこのスタッフがハンターに電話し、彼の家を訪れました。ハンターは彼が家に入るなり話を始めたのです。「今日クラスの友達と一緒にサーフィン行ったんです。それでビーチにいる間、彼らにイエスのことを全部話しちゃいましたよ。」それからハンターは神がどのように彼の人生を造り変えられたのかをスタッフに伝えました。パーティーとアルコールと女性関係だらけの生活から彼を救い出して下さったイエス様への完全な服従と愛の生活へと変えて下さった、最も驚くべき話を聞かされたのです。
Then, in the most humble way possible, almost as if he didn’t understand why it would be a big deal, Hunter explained that since he had become a Christian, he had led 25 of his friends to the Lord! In just three or four months!
それから、何とハンターはこれまでにない謙遜な態度で、まるで何事でもないかのように、自分がクリスチャンになって以来、今までに２５人の友人を主に導いたと話してくれました。わずか３－４ヶ月の間に！
